About Black Heart Pool Cues

I started selling cues in 1984. I had hoped to sell enough to afford a really nice cue of my own. After awhile the cues I had sold started coming back to me for minor repairs. I bought a wood lathe and mounted a chuck on it from a large drill press. Then I added a DC motor. That allowed me to have it turn at slow speeds, with lots of torque. I did tips and wraps on that lathe, but soon bought an old Atlas bench lathe. This allowed me to do all kinds of repairs and even make some shafts. The thought came to me that if I could make a shaft, why couldn't I make a whole cue? It wasn't as easy as I thought. With no mentors to teach me how and with a stubborn trial and error method, it took me about a year to make my first cues. The style, shape and size of my BLACK HEART CUES has evolved over the years, but the quest has always been the same - to build the best playing cues that I can. I try to make each and every one of my creations hit solid and play well yet give the owner a sense of pride, knowing that they now own a one-of-a-kind piece of playing art.
I now own six lathes, including those first two along with an array of tools and machines that help me create each original cue.
Whether you encounter a BLACK HEART POOL CUE on the east coast or the west coast, my goal is to produce all of my cues so that feel and play is as close to one another as I can. A customer may dictate the use of Ivory or other exotic materials, but the shape, weight distribution and taper for all BLACK HEART POOL CUES remains the same in order to acheive my goal of uniformity from cue to cue.
BLACK HEART POOL CUES are all made in the tried and true old fashioned methods that have served the best cuemakers for many years. I make these cues one at a time, without the aid of the CNC or computer generated methods.
I truly love what I do and I think it shows in my work.
The current wait for a BLACK HEART POOL CUE is 8-12 months. Occasionally, I do have unclaimed or extra finished cues available. Please email me for additional pictures or information about my cues.
